About Our Crown Jewel
Our Magnificent Eighteen-hole, Country-Style Championship Golf Course, features some of the most beautiful fairways in Kenya. The course is a haven for diverse flora and fauna, with native bird species and occasional sightings of rare swamp antelopes and Beisa Oryx.
The challenge is real, with the toughest hole being the seventh, stretching to 458 yards for men and 485 for women. Our Golf Course is not only a test of golf skills but also physical conditioning, with the 18th hole standing proudly in front of the clubhouse as a testament to the challenges that await.

The Sigona Story - Building Our Legacy
Sigona Golf Course traces its roots to 1938, when the course was carved out of a modest wattle plantation.
With its charming, tree-lined parkland layout, it began as a 9-hole design crafted by English expert Mr. Berkley-Mathews. The renowned architect Tom Simpson later expanded the course to 18 holes in the late 1960s, solidifying its status as a premier golfing destination.
Nestled near the Rift Valley at an elevation of 6,000 feet, Sigona enjoys a temperate climate with abundant rainfall throughout the year, ensuring the course remains lush, green, and vibrant no matter the season.
Sigona Golf Club holds a fascinating history intertwined with Kenya’s colonial era and post-independence evolution:
- During the Mau Mau Uprising (1952–1960), the Club made headlines when its founder, Jack Berkley-Mathews, was tragically killed by Mau Mau rebels in the Clubhouse in 1954. He was among the 32 Europeans who lost their lives during the rebellion.
- In the early 1960s, Sigona became a pioneer in inclusivity when the Japanese Ambassador to Kenya joined the Club after being refused admission to other golf clubs in the region. This landmark moment opened the doors for other Japanese professionals.
