Sigona Golf Course Overview
FRONT NINE
As the opening hole and the 9th challenging on the course, the player is faced with a DOGLEG left par 4 which requires a lot of accuracy and precision. A mid iron will do off the tee and with an approach short iron onto the raised Green. Avoid the right as there is a valley which might cost you 1 or 2 shots as well as deep left where you might find yourself Out of Bounds (OB). The green slopes back to middle with a slight uphill to the front then sloppy towards the apron, so the smart play is to keep the ball at the center of the green. This is the only Hole in the entire golf course with no bunkers.
This manageable medium length par 4 is guarded by trees both sides and slopping from the tee box down to the fairway and further to the green. With a straight tee shot of about 250 yards the players are able to see the green surface when taking the approach shot. The green is guarded by 3 bunkers on the left and one hanging on the right. This hole demands a well- struck shot to safely reach the undulated putting surface.
This par 3 is a straight forward hole uphill and with a wider green for easy Landing. This Hole’s main defense is a raised green slopping from back to the front with bunkers on the left and the Back.
This first par five offers the skilled player a good chance at birdie, but a well-placed drive is key on this dogleg left. With over 500 yards its not an easy 2 on hole for any average player and therefore accurate placement of the second shot allows a more manageable shot to the all-around bunker- guarded green for a birdie putt.
Played directly into the crosswind wind from left to right, this longest par three on the course measuring over 200 yards demands a solid tee shot to reach the putting surface. The green slightly slopes from back to the front protected by bunkers on the left, right and the back.
Demanding a well-placed tee shot, this tough par four tests the player’s accuracy from start to finish. Stray too far right and you have to navigate the tall matured Blue gum tress to come back to the fairway. Stray too far left and you’ll have to punch out if you are lucky to find your ball as the thick grass and thickets with medium length trees give no room for play. Highly precisioned approach shot is required to the sloppy green avoiding the left as the ball rolls down off the fairway for a handy chip shot easy to few. Aim for the center of the green and par is within your reach.
The Stroke index 1 is a dogleg left that places a premium on a long left-to-right ball flight. Guarded by long trees on both sides this hole offers a real challenge to all levels of golfers. For the long hitters an AMEN shot over the trees cutting on the left to inside 150 yards to the green is possible but with dire consequences if not properly executed to cross over. What follows is an adventurous second into a finger of a green running diagonally and protected by bunkers on the right and the left. A bogey on this hole for an average golfer is essential.
BACK NINE
The opening hole on the back nine with an iconic view from the raised tee box. This uphill par 5 requires a lot of precision from the tee all the way to the green as the entire hole is guarded by matured tall trees on both sides. The green slopes form the back to the front with bunkers on the left, right and the back.
The shortest hole on the golf course. This hole can bite if underrated. The tall trees hanging from the right side, an African map-shaped water hazard and bunkers on the right of the green makes this hole challenging than it looks.
The 2nd most challenging hole on the course and one of the longest par 4. This hole plays longer because of the elevated tee box and an elevated green. A down the middle tee shot is essential. A deceptive uphill approach, if in doubt, take one more club. This shot to the highly elevated green must be executed with precision and accuracy in distance. The uphill must be factored in the approach shot.
Trees guard this hole from the tee box to up to 100 yards to the green on both sides. Anything left or right from the tee is punishable, keep it straight it’s a low index hole. The green slopes from left to the center and a bit from the right towards the center and guarded by deep bunkers on the right and the left.
2nd longest par 3 of the course with wind blowing from right to left most of the time if not against. With OB on the left and with a distance of slightly over 200 yards this hole requires a straight nailed shot to the well protected green by bunkers on the left and a bit on the right landing area.
A dog leg right par 5 awaits with a bunker on the right at the landing area for the average player. OB on the left and trees on both sides protects this shortest par 5 on the course from being destroyed by long hitters. With an against wind most of the time and an elevated green, the approach shot to the well protected green is key if par or birdie is to remain within reach.
The straightest hole on the course which makes driving accuracy paramount here. With trees all along both sides this par 4 requires accuracy from the tee to the green. The approach shot is most of the time to a challenging the green that is undulated and guarded by bunkers before and at the back.
The Shortest par 4 on the course and drivable by the long hitters. Though short this hole is uphill all through and guarded by bunkers from 100 yards to the green all the way to the putting surface. With an uphill approach shot to the right to left sloppy green makes it more challenging than it looks.
The last hole on the course, draped by trees and an OB on the left. Fairway slopping from the left to the right but with a steep terrain on the far right (a no-go area) this hole requires precision and accuracy off the tee. The approach shot on this hole to the elevated green is a real challenge as the “tall signature tree” near the green comes into play. The 18th green is directly in front of the clubhouse terrace, where many golfers will be watching both your approach shot and par/birdie putts!
