Captain's Message

Fellow Members,

It’s yet another moment to take review of our operations over the last few months as the course and match sub-committee and golf officein general.

First is to thank all members for their support, co-operation and understanding so far since we took office in December last year and I look forward to even more co-operation and support in the year.

I would like to take this opportunityto highlight a number of tasks that we have undertaken and we plan to undertake and appreciate members very much for their support.

Course maintenance.

We have managed to maintain our greens in good standards and we are looking forward to have the greens in even better standards throughout the year. We have rehabilitated greens number 1, 9 and 17 in order to improve on their condition. This rehabilitation exercise was aimed at providing our member good quality greens with quality putting surface throughout the year.

The tree management program has also resulted in notable improvements on our greens after shading has been reduced and air circulation improved to enhance more healthy greens.

We have already embarked on tee rehabilitation exercise in order to provide our member with good quality tees. This is the main course activity for this year and will cover all the tees on our course.

We have also procured par aide equipments that will be paramount for our course maintenance for a better course.

Junior section & Pros progress

As you are all aware, we engaged two golf professionals to assist members in learning and bettering their game of golf and they have settled down well and have come in handy in members training.

The pros have held several clinics for our juniors in an effort to mould them to be better golfers. Clinics for members will also be held in on monthly basis.

We have however noted that the turn out for both the juniors’ clinics as well as the members’ clinics has been very low and we would encourage members to take advantage of the services available from our pros to better their game as well that of juniors.

We currently have a juniors program on-going and we encourage members to bring their juniors for this program. The pros have also started a program of training/informing members on basic golf etiquette every Wednesday and the lessons will be on-going moving forward.

Fixtures and Tournaments

The club successfully hosted the Sigona Bowl in January this year with Mr Justus Madoya emerging as the winner of the event.

The Sigona team (which is now referred to as “SIGONA NDOVU’s “ ) is currently  participating  in the upcoming league matches and have already participated  this year’s Tanna hill shield competition in which  we emerged second  overall. We need to do a lot of more preparation to once again win back league trophy this year and Tanna Hill trophy next year.

On the league standing, last year we finished position 5. We seek the support of all members as we strive to regain the title this year.

The year so far has been very successful in terms of sponsorship with all club nights and Saturday’s competitions having sponsors. I wish to thank all those who have come forward to support the club in terms of sponsorship.

I once again thank Sigonians for the trust you have bestowed on me and look forward to your continued support

Captain,

PETER WAWERU
